SUBJECT: Delay in Proposed Changes to Immunization Requirements for School Entry
The Department of Public Health State Immunization Program has informed the Connecticut State Department of Education that the proposed school immunization regulations for the 2009-2010 school year will not be finalized in time to be effectively implemented. Therefore, the new requirements shall go into effect for the fall 2010-2011 school year. The proposed changes include:
1. 2nd Dose Varicella Requirement for Kindergarten and 7th Grade School Entry
The proposed regulations will require two doses of varicella containing vaccine for kindergarten and 7th grade entry beginning in August 2010.
2. 2nd Dose Mumps & Rubella Requirement for Kindergarten and 7th Grade School Entry
The proposed regulations will require two doses of mumps and rubella containing vaccines for kindergarten and 7th grade entry beginning in August 2010.
3. Adolescent Tdap Vaccine Requirement for 7th Graders
The proposed regulations will require a Tdap booster vaccine for 7th grade entry beginning in August 2010.
4. Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine Requirement for Pre-K and K
The proposed regulations will require one dose of Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine administered after the first birthday for all children in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten who are born on or after January 1, 2007 and are less than 5 years of age.
Once the regulatory process has been completed, a finalized copy of the new immunization requirements will be sent to all school nurse supervisors and school medical advisors.
