Projects for Ancient China Exhibit

The museum curators have suggested some ideas for exhibits in the Great Hall.

They are always looking for new and interesting exhibits to add to the museum collection, however.

If you have a new idea for an exhibit, contact the curators for their approval

Video--Powerpoint--Poster/Mural--Debate--Role Play-- Scrapbook

Video

Develop a 5 minute video exhibit about your topic. You should include a clear description of that topic in your video. Some suggestions for your video would be an interview, a newscast, reports on important events and people, or anything else you can think of that would represent life in Ancient China.

Things to think about:
•  access to video camera
•  costuming
•  writing the script for the show
•  memorization of lines in the script
•  scenery or back drop for the taping
•  background music

Powerpoint

Develop a 10 to 15 card stack for your presentation in the Great Hall. Your stack should include important information about the topic you have selected.

Things to think about:
•  access to computers
•  graphics (original artwork, clip art, internet illustrations, etc.)
•  sound
•  transitions between cards
•  introduction, table of contents, bibliography, internet citations, credits

Poster/Mural

Develop a 3 ft. by 5 ft. mural illustrating your chosen topic for the Great Hall. The majority of your mural should be made up of illustrations and information related to your topic. You will want to document your expertise creatively using both graphics and text. You need to be ready to describe how you developed your mural and what it represents about Ancient China for museum visitors.

Things to think about:
•  strategies for sharing information on your mural
•  what type and style of text you will use(note cards, flip ups, poetry, lists, narratives)
•  art medium (chalk, pastels, paint, water color, acrylics)
•  access to art supplies
•  graphic designs
• what you will say about your mural

Debate

Present a 5 minute live or video-taped debate on a controversial topic in Ancient Chinese history. For example, debate life in two dynasties, compare two religions, debate the beliefs of two different philosphers, debate the importance of a significant innovation, etc.

Things to think about:
•  research the rules of debate
•  write a debate script
•  select a moderator
•  decisions about time for each person to present (how will you keep track of time?)
•  costumes
•  props

Role Play

Become a citizen of Ancient China, a famous person, a shop owner, a farmer, a peasant, or a noble, etc. As part of your museum exhibit, take on the role of that individual and relive through words and artifacts a few moments of your life for museum visitors.

Things to think about:
•  written script
•  memorization of lines
•  costumes
•  scenery or back drop
•  artifacts

Scrapbook

Using a three ring binder, create a scrapbook documenting your knowledge of your chosen topic for the Great Hall. You should include pieces like journal entries, descriptions, letters, photographs, maps, sketches, and mementos. You should have a minimum of 5 different kinds of entries (both written and visual). You need to be ready to describe how you developed your scrapbook and what it represents about Ancient China for museum visitors.

Things to think about:
•  style of entries (you need a wide variety)
•  supplies (notebook, type of paper, art supplies, etc.)
•  choosing a coordinator for collecting entries
•  organization of scrapbook
• what will you say about your scrapbook
