Hampton, Pomfret, Killingly, Plainfield, and Canterbury surround Brooklyn. The Quinebaug River separates Brooklyn from Killingly. Brooklyn is five miles from north to south. It is six miles from east to west. Godfrey Malbone and Israel Putnam were very important people in Brooklyn's history. You will hear about them in other parts of our website. Before 1786, Brooklyn was named Mortlake. At one point Brooklyn had 7 school districts. In 1954 a ten room schoolhouse was built on Gorman Road. Some of the important historical sights in Brooklyn are Quebec Square, the Old Meeting House, Old Trinity Church, and the Israel Putnam Statue.
