Godfrey Malbone

Godfrey Malbone was an important man in Brooklyn's history. In 1739, the land in Mortlake (now called Brooklyn) was owned mostly by Godfrey Malbone Senior and Israel Putnam. The land was given to Godfrey Malbone's son, Godfrey Malbone Jr., in 1764. Malbone got into an argument with Israel Putnam. Godfrey Malbone Jr. didn't want a new church, but Israel Putnam did. He was one of the town's largest landholders. Godfrey Malbone would have paid alot of taxes. Malbone built a Church of England on Church Street. It is called Old Trinity Church.
