Ebenezer and Comfort Tiffany from Rhode Island bought land on the west side of the Quinebaug River near the dam. It was not long before they built a cotton mill in Danielson, or Danielsonville, as it was called then. They built a mansion for themselves and three tenement houses for the workers. There were thirteen buildings by 1835. Comfort Tiffany died in 1848. After Ebenezer and Comfort Tiffany died the mill propery was sold to a group of businessmen from Rhode Island who formed the Quinebaug Company. The mill continued to grow and expand, and more houses were built ( of brick now) for the workers. French people came from Canada, and English and Irish came to work in the mill.
