SERC has been in operation since 1969 through funding
from the Connecticut State Department of Education. SERC's commitment
is to serve as a centralized resource for professionals, families,
and community members regarding education and early intervention/prevention
for all of Connecticut's children and youth and their families, particularly
children with special needs, at-risk learners, and diverse learners.
SERC strives for the highest possible level of excellence in its provision
of professional development and other technical assistance initiatives,
family education and support, and information and materials dissemination.
The State Board of Education believes each student
is unique and needs an educational environment that provides for,
and accommodates, his or her strengths and areas of needed improvement.
The Board also believes that a unified and coordinated continuum of
educational opportunities and supports serves and benefits all students.
